Summer Starts With Movement

This is the week summer starts to feel real.

The mornings are lighter. The evenings are longer. The weather is finally pulling people outside around Allentown, Emmaus, Trexlertown, and the rest of the Lehigh Valley.

Golf. Pickleball. Gardening. Walks after dinner. Weekend hikes. Yard work. Chasing kids or grandkids around the backyard.

It all sounds good.

Until your back tightens up. Your knees bark. Your hips feel stuck. Your shoulder doesn’t move the way it used to. Or you realize the activity you were looking forward to now feels harder than it should.

That’s why June is such an important month for your body.

You don’t need to “get in shape” before you start moving. You need to start moving so your body remembers how to feel active again.

The first step does not have to be dramatic.

Ten minutes of walking after dinner. Five minutes of mobility in the morning. Two smart strength sessions this week. A few simple moves to open your hips, wake up your glutes, and get your shoulders moving before sports or yard work.

Small movements send a big message to the body: we’re using these muscles and joints again.

The body adapts quickly. But it only adapts to what you ask of it. Sit all day, and it gets better at sitting. Move a little every day, and it starts giving you more movement back.

That’s the opportunity of summer.

Not a crash program. Not a punishment. Not another restart.

Just momentum.

At Formula 4, we believe the goal is not only to train harder. It’s to move better, recover better, and stay capable for the life you actually want to live.

Summer is here.

Start with movement.

The Body Is More Connected Than We Thought

A recent New York Times Magazine piece explored the interstitium, a fluid-filled network of connective tissue spaces that researchers believe may play a larger role in the body than previously understood.

The interesting part is not that one article suddenly explains everything. It doesn’t.

The real takeaway is that the body is still revealing how connected it is. Muscles, fascia, fluid, lymph, blood flow, posture, movement, and recovery are not separate conversations. They are part of one system.

That’s why we care so much about alignment, mobility, strength, and recovery at Formula 4.

When one part of the body gets stuck, other parts compensate.

When the whole system moves better, people usually feel better.

Ask Formula 4

Q: Does walking count as exercise?

Yes. Absolutely.

Walking is one of the simplest and most underrated forms of exercise. It supports cardiovascular health, circulation, joint movement, stress management, and recovery.

But walking is not the whole plan.

For most adults, especially after 40, the best formula is walking plus strength training plus mobility work.

Walking keeps you moving. Strength helps preserve muscle, bone, balance, and independence. Mobility helps you move with less restriction and better control.

So yes, take the walk.

Then build the body that lets you keep walking for decades.
